Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture on Maui?
Aloha from the beautiful island of Maui! A question I get often is, “Will my insurance cover acupuncture?” The answer is not quite straight-forward, and really depends on your insurance plan.
I’m happy to announce that I have recently become an in-network provider with HMAA, so those with an active HMAA health insurance policy can receive acupuncture from me and have insurance cover most of the costs.
On the island of Maui, and most of the Hawaiian islands, the most common insurance providers include HMSA, Kaiser, or UHA.
I am currently in process of becoming credentialed with HMSA and Kaiser. However, it depends on the insurance plan you have in particular - not all of them cover alternative health care services like acupuncture. If you aren’t sure what is covered under your plan, you can always reach out to me and I can help you figure it out.
Being able to provide direct billing for HMAA, HMSA, and Kaiser opens the door for many people who are seeking acupuncture services but not able to pay for acupuncture fully out-of-pocket. I am so excited to be able to provide acupuncture with less of a financial strain on my clients.
If you do not see your insurance provider listed here, but are interested in acupuncture — I’d still recommend directly requesting reimbursement from your insurance. Although they may not reimburse the full amount, it’s worth a try to recoup some of your hard-earned money.
I can provide a receipt for you to submit to your insurance provider with all the information they need to process a health insurance claim.
Some of the things that health insurance providers cover acupuncture for include neck pain and low back pain — often the most common complaints that I treat in clinic.
