Sugar: Not So Sweet After All

Are those sweet treats finding their way into your life?

I’m always shocked at the incredible amount of candy and other sweets out there!

It’s a true test of willpower to not indulge when it seems that every store is filled with sugary temptations.

A recent conversation with my mentor shed light on the negative effects of sugar.

We all know that sugar is terrible for our teeth and can cause blood sugar imbalances like type 2 diabetes. Consistent insulin spikes lead to impaired glucose regulation and metabolic dysfunction. But did you know that sugar can wreak havoc on our reproductive health as well?

The ovaries have a negative relationship with glucose, potentially confusing it for Luteinizing Hormone (LH). This can affect egg maturation and the ovulation process.

Combined with metabolic dysfunction, excess weight, and inflammation, this negative relationship with glucose makes it harder to support healthy conception.

Aside from reproductive health, refined sugar is highly inflammatory with no nutritional value. It may be a contributing factor to flare-ups of pain, never fully allowing your acute or chronic injury to heal.

I’ve always encouraged moderation over extreme lifestyle changes. A treat every now and then should be enjoyed to the fullest.

If you’d like to support your body’s blood sugar metabolism, here are some products I recommend.

  • Planetary Herbals Cinnamon Glucose Balance Supplement (contains Chromium, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Cinnamon, Fenugreek, Bitter Melon, and Gymnema…a great blend to support healthy blood sugar).

  • Host Defense Maitake Mushroom Supplement

  • Thorne or Integrative Therapeutics Berberine Supplement
